Biographical Sketch:

Datuk Dr M.Z. Atun Wee MB.ChB (Leeds), MRCS (Eng), LRCP (Lon), RFCI, FRCSEd, A.M (M’sia) was the first Native of Sabah to become a doctor, sent on a scholarship back to England at the end of the British Colonial era on a one way ticket from money collected by British VSO volunteers to Sabah as a token of gratitude to the native of this country. Dr. Wee repaid the gesture by returning to dedicate his life to medical service to Sabah after having trained for 18 years in UK as Specialist in Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic and Plastic Reconstructive surgery for the needs in Sabah in 1980. He was appointed pioneering Professor in brain surgery at UKM in 1979 but after a very short time continued his mission in Traumatology multipurpose in Sabah. His return of service included 9 years to establish Traumatology in Brunei Darussalam. He pioneered the first private hospital Sabah Medical Centre  for the government of Sabah and established the first dedicated Spinal Injury Unit in OEH in 1983 and the first Malaysia Paramedic Ambulance Service PAYS for Yayasan Sabah trainer for the Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh and Ireland at the hospital, invented the Clavicle I.m pin and is still innovating new in plants and magical techniques, whilst until today practicing in Damai dedicated specialist in Spinal Surgery and Knee Arthroplasty, developing the most advanced Sabah Knee Unicondylar Replacement prosthesis. Dr. Wee was in the world original initiator of the use of 3DCT analysis of spinal bone diseases since the last 6 years.
