KPJ Sabah's Operations Temporarily Halted


Pre-dawn Blaze Impacts Hospital 11 July 2016 - An early morning fire occurred at the main switch room of KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital (KPJ Sabah), resulting in the temporary halting of the hospital's operations. Initial investigations indicate that the fire, which started at 5.30am, was triggered by an electrical short-circuit. The situation was brought under control by 7.20am. Executive Director of KPJ Sabah, Madam Mah Lai Heng said, "Damage was confined only to the hospital's main switch room. All other parts of the hospital remain safe and unaffected." "I must emphasise that even as we face this challenge, patient safety continues to be KPJ Sabah's topmost priority. Among our first action was transfer inpatients to our sister hospital in Kota Kinabalu, namely KPJ Damai Specialist Hospital (KPJ Damai). This is to enable our patients to continue receiving quality treatment without any further interruptions in view of the effected of the fire." The Hospital Management is currently working closely with the relevant parties to restore the main electricity supply to the building as soon as possible.
